Happy smc PENTAX DA 15mm F4 ED AL Limited owner...

I just got smc PENTAX DA 15mm F4 ED AL Limited. My first impressions are as follows:

It is a very sharp lens in general.

At f4 it has softer corners but not so intensively one might think and at f8 corners are almost as sharp as canter is...

It has a minor vignetting effect at f4 but it goes away once you stop down to f5.6

It has an amazing flare control...

In some cases it might produce some PF.

I had to adjust the AF to +10 as on K-7 had BF issue...

It has a very well controlled distortion...

The build quality is fantastic!!!

The size and weight of the lens are simply unbelievable for its focal length...

In general I must say that I am a very happy customer!!!

Here are a few test shots

I was curtain that I saw flare through the view finder... Obviously that was not the lens...

The closest distance I could focus to...

Crop 100% focused point

Crop 100% center

Crop 100% top center

Crop 100% top right

All photos captured handheld... No PP at the full crops...

I got my 15LTD yesterday. Haven't had a chance to do more than a couple of snaps in the store's parking lot, but it does look good.

...

This is an example of not so amazing flare control...

It is a test for flare(!) and incidentally an K-7 HDR test (which wasn't very sucessful!).
The lens is the DA* 16-50/2.8 (no filter honestly!). I'm going to sell it and replace it with the kit zoom (surely it's no worse?) and the 15 Limited, the 21 Limted and I already have the three FA Limiteds.

I go back and forth on which way to go. I should have just kept my 16-45 but instead got a fit of LBA and picked up 16-50* and 15ltd. Each has their place...I should just keep both. Or neither.

15ltd pro
small/light
marginally better iq in good light

15ltd con
f4 ain't fast
one trick pony

16-50 pro
weathersealed
versatile
f2.8

16-50 con
bigger/heavier

I should have just tried to ignore the LBA. for the past few months the 31ltd rarely left the camera. But I did have to do a location shoot with 50-135 and I ended up shooting the DLux4 for wides.

*sigh* where is that lotto ticket?

Personally I fed up of DA*.
I used to own K20D, DA*16-50/2.8 and DA*50-135/2.8. Unfortunately, I hadn't used them since last Christmas! Too heavy, too balky too slow to focus, too hard to work with etc etc made the photography for me quite an unpleasant action... Ok IQ and f2.8 are a plus but that is only when you have the gear with you the right moment at the right place... They worth nothing to me if I cannot shoot with them...
So I end up with K-7, 15, 21, 43, 70 and the new weather sealed 18-55
Now I can always carry at least K-7 with one or two pancakes with me. According to where I have to go I or to what I am planning to shoot I pick the right combo that always can fit in my small camera case...
More importantly, the use of these pancakes is such a pleasure to use... I feel so excited when I shoot with them and k-7 as I used to feel when I got my first pentax dslr (*ist DS)...
Even my girlfriend got exited with k-7 and 21.
