Shipping in the heat?

I just got my Sigma 70-200 yesterday and I try it out and it will not focus. I can feel the motor going but nothing. I also try it in manual focus mode also and it still will not focus.
The heat has been in the 100s and the lens set in the hot UPS truck all day because it was on the end of his route. Anyway, I tried the lens this morning and it all seems to work fine. Now I don't know if I should return it or if it will be fine. I will check it out better when I get home from work today but I don't have much time this morning. Has anyone had a problem with the heat doing this and have things turned out okay if you have. Will there be permanent damage?

God I am having the worst luck these days.

Does "will not focus" mean the same as "the darn focus ring isn't turning"? If so, maybe some oil/lubricant has gone loose, though this should require even greater heat.
On the other side, most of my lenses does survive the sun for quite long periods, getting very hot. Maybe you just got unlucky? : (

you should report the problem, just to log it within the warranty period.

if you have problems later this at least documents the first occurance

I've read several discussions of the HSM not working in really hot conditions, often after shipping. This seems to be normal for this lens.

Good to hear it might not be an issue. I can't get in touch with the retailer until Monday so at least I have a chance to play with it and give it a thorough once over this weekend.

Il will make sure I get that done for you this weekend. But I would quess it is about 1/2 the size. I know it is going to be very easy to handhold. I am interested to see how well it preforms. I just hope I got a good copy. I know you have plans to get this one yourself.

take care
Oren

Here is a size comparison for you pcarfan. I am just headed out the door with the three so I will post some examples later. I really haven't shot with the macro yet either because I just got it in the mail Tuesday. The first copy I had was used and I don't think a good copy so I sent it back for a new one.

Man, I hope my LBA subsides. I was doing okay and getting my credit card payed off but the 70-200 was unexpexted. I thnk I will still be sending in the 100-300 to get it checked out. I don't like not knowing and I like my gear to be top notch. I am anal that way ( in a lot of others ways also )

Hope this helps

Oren
