Slight rattle M 50 1.4

Question?

I have a number of SMC Pentax M 50mm f1.4 k mount lenses and while cleaning and deciding which one to sell I noticed a slight rattle heard when giving a gentle shake. I checked 2 more (with filters removed) both have this sound. Is it possibly the blades or is is just a characteristic of the lens itself or worse?

Thanks,

Jack Z.

Well, with it stopped down how smooth is the aperture lever on the back of the lens? Are the blades quick and smooth to open when you let go of the lever? I wouldn't worry too much about a slight rattle if nothing else is apparent.

What do you want for it?

Regards,
Mike

My M 50/1.4 has a little rattle as well. Works perfectly. I'm not going to worry about it.

They are mechanical devices. There has to be a bit of play to allow things to move properly.

Many Pentax-K and Pentax-M lenses have a slight rattle in the aperture mechanism. My M 50/1.7 rattled when it was new. Near as I can tell, it does not affect image quality, control feel, or long-term durability.

Thanks for the impute! I tried the suggestion of X-man and the blade are all quick and smooth; also while holding down the lever no rattle. Haven't made up my mind as far as an asking price but if and when I'll keep you in mind, X-man.
