I owned it before before I had canon 14 f2.8L. Funnily sigma was way much better than canon 14 f2.8 as there is a well known quality control issue with canon 14 f2.8L in which 9 out of 10 owners will call out foul for the canon version.

Sigma 14 f2.8 is a great lens but it suffers the same issue as very soft at corners. More lens distorsion than any competition brands while Da 14 only has distortion at 0.3%; The one thing I noticed the most from sigma 14 f2.8 is the fact that it is not capable to elicit shadow details at all. And I meant none at all. If you see shadows withint the frame, it will appear as dark spots in the photo instead.

Flare issue is same as Da 14 f2.8; Even though a lot of reviews commenting on Da 14 f2.8 being quite flare resistant. I think they are almost similar when I used it outdoor - always flare regardless what strength of UV filters was used even with the lens hood on. However, I love using Da 14 f2.8 indoor.

Depends on how cheap sigma 14 f2.8 is. I would not really go for this lens as it really requires a total make over by now IMHO.

Cheers

This price is reasonable. Given that you do studio work, this lens might be ok as you do not really worry about the corner softness in the image.

BTW no uv filters for this lens - it does not screw onto the lens that well at all. In the past, I used large shields to block excess lights coming from sides when I used the lens for wedding shots ...
