Lens advice-10-17mm Pentax fisheye & Vivitar 28mm

Hi! All,

Just wondering if $300 is a good price for the lens. Supposed to be like new.

Also I have the option to buy a vivitar 28mm lens but have an Auto rikenon 28mm already.

Sounds Pretty Good

Sounds pretty good to me . . . best price I see on the net right now is $356 (after $100 rebate at Adorama). I got mine last year for $329 (after rebate) but I think the popularity of the lens has grown.

Also, little know fact about the 10-17mm is it's macro capability . . . will focus down to 1 inch.

Pentax Imaging - Pentax Press Release

Not familiar with the Vivitar 28mm but, generally, their lenses are OK . . . Series 1 were pretty good.

I think you will enjoy the 10-17mm.

QuickMacro

Here is a quick shot of a cactus in my backyard just before dark . . . ISO 800; F4.0; 13mm (19mm equiv); 1/15s (hand held - who says SR doesn't work?) . . . about 2 inches from the flower.

Had to delete image to make room for follow-up . . . see my next post.

The fisheye is definitely worth $300.

Better light, better macro samples

Here are a couple of macros from this am . . .

Number 1 . . . ISO 200; F11; 1/90; 13mm

Number 2 . . . ISO200; F22; 1/30; 10mm

I must admit

that this $300 is a superb deal- and what a lens: much creative fun and in digital world You get 10mm with defishing (some limits, OK) and a touch-in macro (OK, only 1:2.5 magnification but only 1 inch/2.5 cm from front element :-) Take it and You will never regret I guess
Best and happy creations, JR
And here is one humble macro made at 17mm setting with K100D- and it is very hard not to touch the flowers with the lens due to the small minimal focus

I guess the guys above have already convinced you, but I could say exactly the same. It's a fantastic lens for its price. A friend of mine has it and besides the extreme wide angle and the creative potential, the lens performs well in terms of sharpness and color rendition.

I'm sure you'll enjoy it a lot.

Thanks for the info and the shots.

This makes it difficult for me. I bought my K110D for $250 incl the 2gb SD. $300 for the lens makes me think twice.

Get used to paying a lot more for a lens that you did for the body. In the scheme of things, the body is usually the cheapest piece of hardware you will buy.
