Hello and help - 50mm 1.7a problem.

I've been reading through the excellent posts and discovered that I am not the only one with a dodgy aperture ring on my 50mm 1.7 A as a result of a broken tab - a common problem. Following advice in posts, I managed to get the the lens useable again. But no A function

I have bent the spring that goes under the chrome bullet and spring assemblythat forms the electrical contact as the spring is now is L shaped! It no longer pushes up with enough force. I tried again but no joy, the contact gets pushed in and stays in as the lens is attached to the camera. At the moment the lens works like an M series, but Iwould like the electrical contact to work properly again.

Just wondering if anyone has had success with replacing the spring with a bit of rubber or similar?

What would happen if I dispense with the spring and make the contact protrude permanently?

Any Ideas? I would be very grateful, as would those who have lost the spring!
