Now I'm going to have to quit using my old Timex watches for close up comparisons. Its the watch, it has to be.

Small world, I have the exact same watch, the Oris BC3...
Wow, yours is absolutely pristine... whereas I use this as my "beater" watch... and it shows.

Shot taken at ISO 400, 1/20 sec and f5.6. Shot in raw and converted. As far as lighting, there really isn't much to tell. I use one single fluorescent lamp that is multi jointed for flexibility. Sort of like a goose neck but with three clamp down joints. The light was positioned at the lower left of the watch and was covered with a sheet of vellum paper for diffusion. One stand alone white reflection card on the right side of the watch. Camera on a tripod of course. Watch sitting on a very large piece of white construction paper. My makeshift studio is always a work in progress and is mostly a mess. I simply move stuff around until I achieve the results I like without too much glare or reflection.

Forgot to mention spot metering and no exposure compensation.

That's a great photo Larry. I'm sure the Zeiss had something to do with it, but I'd love to know your technique. I tried to see the EXIF data but it's gone. How did you light it so nicely? The crystal is completely transparent, no glare at all and no shadows. Beautifully done.
