I want a new lens

I am looking for opinions?

Here is what I have:

Auto:
SMC Pentax-FA 70-200mm F/4-5.6
SMC Pentax-DA 18-55mm F/3.5-5.6 (kit)
Sigma DC 18-200mm F/3.5-6.3

Manual:
SMC Pentax-M 1:2 50mm F/2.8
Tonika 28-70mm F/2.8-4.3

Tamron MC Tele-converter 2x

I know I want a fast zoom lens (a constant F/ would be a +)
I have two boys that are 6 & 8. They are in sports and I would like enough reach to get "decent" memory pictures.
I am a graphic designer and not a professional photographer by any means. I think I am starting to understand what it takes to make a great image. I have been using my equipment to make unique backgrounds for clients. It has worked out well.

I am willing to sell any of my lens to fund my next purchase. I really like the Sigma 18-200mm. I used it as a walk around lens at Disneyworld with the kids and it worked great. The 50mm F/2.8 came with my K1000 about 30 years ago, (still have the body) so it has a little value to me. The others, not so much.

I have been looking at the Tamron 17-50mm XR f/2.8 Di II and the Sigma 24-70mm f/2.8 DG EX.

Do you have any other suggestions?

Look into the DA 17-70mm f4 as well. Its not quite as fast as the ones you mentioned but it has more of a range.

Tamron 28-75 2.8 constant ap... although with boys and sports it may not be long enough...

I would say with boys at that age, spend the money and get the Tamron 70-200 2.8 constant ap lens...

Your choices don't seem to reflect your need for a long telephoto for close-up sports shots of your kids.

Are you sure you want the wide zooms?
Gus mentioned a great lens (the Tamron 70-200), which I have and can vouch for, but is large and heavy (if that is at all a problem). Though, I've lugged it around buddied to my K20D+grip for a whole day's concert without too much hassle.

An AF teleconverter would do you even better with this lens - you can get a Tamron 1.4x one (which I also have and can recommend) for about $120.

Otherwise, you're looking at a Sigma 70-200 without the ability AFAIK to put a TC on it (unless someone's found a TC that works).

All the best in your decision.

I second the 70-200 2.8 recommendation.
