I've read the reviews - still need help -DA 50-200, FA 75-300, DA 55-300

Of course $$ is the deciding factor - if it wasn't I wouldn't need your help

Im a MWAC - taking shots of kids sports, landscapes, etc. I have am old Magnicon 70-210 that I am not happy with the IQ so I really need a decent, inexpensive zoom.

In my market (Canada) I can get the DA 50-200 for approximately $150, The FA 75-300 for $200, or jump up to the DA 55-300 for $500.

I am hopelessly lost in all the reviews and images I have looked at. Is the $300 more for the DA 55-300 going to make me happier? Can anyone link me to a cheaper price for it?

I am going to take my body in today to try the 2 DA lenses out but would love to hear you thoughts.

Thanks!

OK I solved my own problem. Did a lot of searching and found the 55-300 for $360 so I clicked the buy button really quickly. I'm sure from the reviews I've read here that it is a good lens for me and now that I got it at what I think is a good price I feel better about it. Should be in my hands by Friday.

Thanks to everyone who offers their personal reviews. I am not technically knowledgeable about all the fine details but I can read the score numbers quite well and those and your commnets really helped me a lot!

I think most people would choose the DA 55-300mm over the other two. You can get it from Prodigital2000 on eBay for $442 CAD by it now price. you can also make a lower offer. You can offer them $400 CAN. If they don't accept it, you can up your offer a little. But you should be able to get it a little lower then $442 from them.

Also if you are patient, this lens comes up in the Marketplace every now and then for around $300 US. There is a little sample variation between lenses so make sure you get a sharp copy.

You are quicker than I am. Good luck with your new lens.

Stratario - I actually found it at prodigital for $399 US so I called them and guess what?...they offered it at $360 Canadian so i jumped on it! Hope I don't regret it. I'm sure my DH has purchased from them in the past with no problems so hopefully it will be the same for me.

You just called them? Wonder if they'd accept the same price if I made a bid?

Damn, that's cheap!

Congrats Neisey.
In full or slightly dulled sunlight the 55-300 should perform very well for you.
All the best with the sports photos!
