***Note:
If you have any Cosmicar lenses, you can classify those as Pentax/Takumar rather than 3rd party.

Mostly third party, beacuse I can pick them up really cheap. Sears, Vivitar, Soligor, etc.

I have more Pentax lenses (sadly no Takumars) but only by 1.
But the quality is there: FA31ltd, DA40ltd, F50/1.7, DA*50-135 and humble DA18-55 vs Sigma 10-20 (oldest version), Sigma 24/2.8 AF SWII, Sigma 105 macro DG EX and Tamron 70-300 LD Di. There is one more lens missing in the line up. Something to cover long end. And I'm torn between Sigma 100-300/4 and Pentax DA*200 or DA*300. Well we'll see which one it'll be at in the end.

I have over time picked up roughly equal pentax and 3rd party lenses.

of lenses I really use, the zooms I have are thrid party FAST AF lenses, and the primes are almost exclusively SMC pentax MF lenses.

Just worked out that way.

Same story with me, mostly Sigma zooms, where there wasn't any Pentax equivalent available for a long time (70-200/2.8, 50-500, 10-20, 15-30,) and the Tamron 90mm macro, because it was much less bulky than the Pentax FA 100... and finally the Voigtländer 180/4 close-up, because the Pentax 200mm Macro is out of this world.

I kind of just thought of doing them recently, to break up the monotony of the kinds of posts lately. Something that everyone in the forum can do and peek in on at least once, where as other threads you only get a handful of the members watching/viewing that topic.

I'm assuming you mean "3rd party lenses mountable on a Pentax camera", ie. K and M42 mount, either fixed or an adapter system. I think I have about the equal number of each, 17 or thereabouts.

Guess I fall in the majority group - mostly Pentaxs (or is it Pentaxes?)

Mostly because I value the quality of their glass more - the only other 3rd party lenses I have are Tamrons (not too keen on Sigmas), and only then because Pentax don't make those particular ones (28-75, 70-200 and 500 mirror).

What I would do to get the quality of the 50-135 in a 70-200...

Pentax exclusively. They're the reason I've stuck with Pentax for almost four decades, despite brief excursions into Contax, Olympus, & Nikon territories along the way. Pentax glass has always lured me back. Not only is the glass equal to any, but the construction & fluid focusing operation (especially the M42 screwmount Takumars) remains, IMO, unmatched by any SLR manufacturer ever..... intoxicating. It is just a lucky fact for me that Pentax turned out to be the only manufacturer that decided to retain complete (if slightly crippled) backwards compatibility.

It would also be interesting to run the poll at the end of the year asking people what they bought more of during the year, but limit it to new retail lenses to see what the ratio is.

Have another poll for new versus previously loved lenses to see if people are using the backwards comparability to their advantage. I'm probably 2/3 used with1/3 new.

Thank you
Russell

I have more Pentax/Takumar lenses by a long shot.

Pentax/Takumar: A* 85, FA* 85, A* 200 Macro, 31 Ltd, DA* 16-50, Super Tak 55 f2, S-M-C Tak 28
3rd Party: Sigma 100-300mm f4

If I could trade the Sigma for a DA* 300mm I would without hesitation. Not that the Sigma is bad, but I would love to have weathersealing and SDM, I love Pentax color, and I'm not a fan of the Sigma coatings.

Obviously I love Pentax glass.

I always had more Pentax lenses. However, at first my bag contained two third-party lenses and one Pentax lens only. Now that I've bought and sold lenses to improve my kit (so it better matches my style) I own 2 third-party ( one being used often, the other for sale) and 5 Pentax lenses, 2 aleays with me, 2 often with me (these are more specific, ie macro) and one doesn't get used much.

Lens ownership

Until a few months ago I would lift my nose a bit and proclaim my Pentax purity.

Then I bought a Tamron Adaptall-2. And another. And another. And extension tubes. And another.

Boy, are they seductive for the old LBA!! (and I actually use them more than the Pentax stuff )

I did sell some Pentax glass, but it never stays just half full, no matter what I do.
