Yea, I made the adjustment under Custom Settings #35. I had to set it to -8 to get the f1.4 even close.

On my AF lenses, I set them to -2 and things seem a bit clearer. I still have to play around with the settings some more.

Thanks again to everyone for your help with this one.

just as an observation, this sounds a little too far out for a normal situation.

Have you thought about sending it to pentax to set up correctly? It is under warranty right?

So what you are saying is that both the focusing screen and the AF sensors are not correctly alligned to the image sensor, but that the focusing screen agrees with the AF sensor.

To me, this would cause every lens to be focusing incorrectly on the body.
I'm thinking that, becase of the very narrow DOF on the f1.4, it brought to light a focusing problem that I need to take care of now. The bad thing is, if I can't correct it myself, my trip to the Grand Canyon in 5 weeks may be affected.

As soon as I get back from the Grand Canyon, I'll check out the pictures and probably send it back to get adjusted.

I don't know how pentax service is set up in the US, and how close you live to a pentax service center, but it took less than 2 weeks for me to get my K10 shutter replaced by pentax canada (although I live 10 miles from the service center, so I could take it in and pick it up.

I would agree with Lowell, my k20 only required a -3 to correct, and it had actually improved my zooms as well. Your k20 is actually quite a bit further out than I would accept... so enjoy your trip with your now *improved* focus and worry about the rest when you get back!

Have a good one

Yea, I'm taking four 4GB cards with me, plus my laptop, so I will be taking plenty of pictures. We're going to hit the Grand Canyon and try to get over to Bryce Canyon, Monument National Park. We're also spending several days in the Sedona area. It should be interesting.
