Wobbly lens barrel of DA70?

Just to check with those who own this lens, does the barrel wobbles? Mine felt like it could move probably 0.5mm laterally. The rest of my DA limiteds are much tighter. Can it be tightened up? Thanks.

I just got one off the marketplace a few weeks ago. No wobble or play in mine at all.

Hmm, I think all the DA limiteds wobbles to some extend. Perhaps I need to clarify that I am refering to the part which extends out as the focus ring turns. It is not tightly coupled to the lens barrel.

I have 4 DA Ltd lenses, including the 70mm, and all of them has a little wobble in the barrel. As have most lenses I have owned, including some Canon L lenses. I wouldn't worry about it.

There was a post posted by frank some while back where a DA 70mm Limited just came apart.
https://www.pentaxforums.com/forums/239077-post15.html

I've seen another DA 40mm Limited come apart too where the internal prongs came off the helical thread. Personally I'm not so impressed with the DA Limited build quality compared to the FA Limiteds.
A DA 40mm I had and which later sold also had a slight wobble. The only DA Limited I use is the DA 21mm but only because of the focal length and because I got it cheap.

Mine has almost no wobble at all. Feels extremely tight compared to my DA16-45, which really is a wobbly lens fully extended (Speaking of wobbliness and feel of build quality, I tried the 18-55 WR the other day, and that really feels like a much more expensive lens than it is).

I agree. The FA limiteds are built to an impeccable tolerance, perhaps less the FA43, where the barrel is concern. The slight complain is the aperture ring which seems a bit loose but that is just nick-picking.

My copy of DA-70 has slight lateral play as well, when the lens is extended out. It's not much, but seems like a lot given the size of the lens. I'd be more worried if it wobbled vertically. I don't remember noticing this with my DA40. I'll have to check again.

I also never understood why everyone raves about the build quality of the DA limited series. Apart from the mount, everything feels a bit light, thin and brittle. While the DA40 seems solid (mostly due to its compactness), I don't think any are comparable to FA series and unlikely to outlast any FA lens.

Same sentiments here. The DA limiteds are very well-built in comparison with the mass-market plasticky modern lenses. But really, they are still a notch lower compared to the FA limiteds.

I just received a DA 70 today. I am very, very impressed with it. I noticed no wobble in the barrel at all. It looks very well made to me. It reminds me of my old Leica screwmount lenses.
