M42 Tele Prime... what's the story on this one?

There's a local camera store here in town that has been around forever and the owner has some leftover accessories from an estate sale. One of the items he's selling is a 400mm/6.3 telephoto prime lens for $30. It's an m42 screw lens ...but i can't really find any information on it. Can you guys help me out based on the image below and tell me if it's worth $30? (My gut feeling says to just buy it and try it out since its only $30.)
(Sorry about the crappy pic...i was using my iPhone and i guess had it too close.)

[[oops...i meant to post this in the lens discussion! Sorry mods! Move it if needed]]

I have a cheep 400mm f/6.3 and have seen a few others. None of them are great lenses but they can be good fun and you dont have to protect it with your life like you would with a pentax 400mm. Provided it is all in tact and there are no major faults on the optics or the mechanics then you can't go far wrong for $30.

Thanks for the reply! Yes, it looks as though Amiter is a very obscure brand from the 70's/80's. I've got a pretty new Tamron 75-300, so i may just hold off on this one. I'm not sure I really need it.

from the number of studs in the aperture ring, It looks like that lens has a spectacular number of blades to it's aperture.

For 30 bucks I would buy it. There were a lot of these lenses sold in the late 60's and 70's under various names. The Tele-Astranar and Spiratone 400 were the most common. I believe they were all the same lens, just labeled differently for the distributer. A friend of mine had one and used to get very good surf shots.

I currently have a Prinz Galaxy 400 f/6.3 which is generally considered to be a good paper weight but actually isn't that bad. Even this has 15 blades in the aperture

I'd expect the bokeh to be quite smooth from a lens with THAT many aperture blades

Probably related to the Spiratone/Tele-Astranar etc etc lenses that were sold under a multitude of brand names back then. I had one and stopped down to f/8 it performed quite well for the price.
