The bought the lens yesterday in the morning and it came in today at noon- couldn't get much better, right?

I will be going out to shoot with it some more tomorrow (hopefully outside of my back yard!). Stay tuned!

I can'T help wonder why the tripod collar is so near the base. Is it well balanced?

What a beast. Congrats on the purchase!

First impression.... SHAAAAARP.
You've got probably the best macro out there, Adam.
Congrats and hope to see more of its images come through!

Not like he didn't have a 250-600mm f/5.6 already.

Great shot (especially with the cactus spikes!). I was wanting this lens a long time ago until i recently found out it was worth lots of $$$ and super rare.

I haven't mounted the lens yet, but the A* 200 macro has the mount near the base as well, and I remeber it working quite well.

Thanks guys- I'm excited to get some real shots with it!

So just to confirm; compared to a 100mm macro, you can be 2x the distance away?

God, that's a beautiful piece of glass!

Thanks Adam - you are now officially in the good books - image proof of the lens!!!

Bdery: it is well balanced, especially with a battery grip. The hood is quite long. The actual lens with/without hood is as follows:

Length without hood: ~ 7.5 inches or ~ 19cm
Length with hood: ~ 10.6 inches or ~ 26.9cm

Congrats again Adam! You have some beautiful plants in your area, so I suspect having the hood in the bright lighting will be a nice thing.

Best regards,
Marc

Congratulations, Adam!

This is somewhat like finding the Holy Grail of macro lenses, isn't it?

And in your own backyard (Marketplace) so to speak

Almost twice as far, yes.

And yes, Bart. Right on!

I just got home from the Botanical Garden and my initial reaction to the lens's performance was that its IQ, sharpness, color rendition, and ESPECIALLY bokeh are simply off the charts.

New thread coming up soon in PYP!

Yes, it's one of the finest FA* lenses Adam!! I wasn't kidding in my review on the FA* 200/4 Macro lens. The IQ, sharpness, color rendition are stunning and the bokeh is extraordinary.

As I've always said: even if I ever switched systems or shot dual setups, this lens for macro and Pentax gear for landscape is a winner, hands down. You'd have to pry it out of my cold dead hands...

What's your verdict - was the purchase worth it?

Cheers,
Marc
