Actually, it still isn't very fleshy, more like a skeleton people can hang their comments on. I apologise for that, because it would help if there was something more there to guide people. Though I am loathe to make categorical comments based on my limited experience.

If one has the money to buy a few lenses and the patience to sell off those that don't work, then I think the ebay trip can be worthwhile. You are right that rising prices have killed the joy a bit. I wasn't in this game long enough ago that I can remember cheap prices.

The zooms you mention are nice, of course, but there is something special about using a fine prime.

Your guide is a wonderful aid to identify with. I didn't mean to imply you should add reviews. Without your excellent bestiary I wouldn't know what I do or do not have. Once I knew I could look for others with the same one. I doubt any other lens has such a great resource as you have made. Thank you for it. Also one cannot overlook the wife factor. In my case she is quite understanding but explaining how I bought the wrong lens only works a couple times, after that she thinks maybe I am not very good at buying lenses and ought to stop wasting money. It's a factor alright.

It's not so much that you bought the wrong lens, it is more that you need to explore a range of lens options before you can find those that work for you. Try that approach!

And thanks for your kind words. I am encouraged to flesh out the Bestiary soon.

Update: I after much internal debate ordered the Tamron 17-50. Cons: I will miss out on the 12 to 16 range, Pros: the constant f2.8, improved sharpness over kit lens, and almost half the price. This all was considered in my final decision to get the 17-50 over the DA 12-24.
