DA*16-50 making noise

I was using my 16-50 this weekend and i noticed that the lens made noise while focusing, normally cause of the SDM you couldnt even hear a sound...

Should i send the lens to Pentax for a check?

What kind of a noise?
Indeed, it should be near-silent, so any sound is a concern in this lens.
Do get it checked out.

You can hear the lens spin when it focus, and it ticks when it touches the focus point
Its really strange

Well worth getting it looked into.
Doesn't sound normal.

if what wasn't there before is there now (the sound), that's not normal and I would have it looked into if it's still under warranty.
just curious, how recent is your 16-50 or put it another way, how old is your 16-50 ?

I bought it in May, its not that old...
Anyways, i went back today to the store i bought it from, and they said they would send it to Pentax for me

that's not too long ago. i'm in the market for this lens as well, but the SDM failures still has me spooked.

let me know how it goes with the pentax service.

I wouldn't let PScott's Pentax service effect your decision.
If he bought the lens in Canada he'll be dealing with Pentax Canada, not Pentax USA.

Pentax Canada isn't known for it's good service, whereas Pentax USA is.
