The DA 10-17 FE truly is a spectacular lens - and all I use for wide angle work. I don't have any experience with wide angle rectilinears, however I thought I'd share a couple car shots made with the FE (no distortion correction added):

I have both the 10-17 fisheye and 12-24 wide from pentax, love them both, use them for completely different things. I would say, if you truly want a wide, get one, not the fisheye. I found myself switching to the 12-24 from the fisheye in the begining as I realized, the 10-17 was truly to wide. I use it as a fun lens. I'll go out to NYC and only bring that lens and my 50 1.4, it forces me to be creative....
