I really think the lens has a mystique that overshadows it's price and performance. I never shoot any lens larger than f2, and I have a lot of f1.4's. I could never justify the price of the 1.2. I sometimes think the notoriety of the lens makes you think you've got a sharper picture than you really have!

That link to Dimitrov's site indicates the normal A 1.2 is not that rare, and only the special chrome version that was sold with the LE LX 2000 is rare. He has the A 1.2 as being available several times per year. It's a lot more common than say the 135mm f1.8. I've probably seen no less than ten A 1.2's for sale on ebay in the past few months. That's more around than say an F 50mm 1.4.

I've seen quite a few F 50 1.4 , but not mostly being sold at eBay though. I don't think it would make any sense that someone would still sell an F 50 1.4 since it has a newer version which is optically the same. if we would consider the sales of the FA and manual 50's 1.4's, I'm sure that it is way more than the amount of A 50's being sold. I could see atleast one 1.4 being sold everyday as opposed to the 1.2. even the K 1.2 version doesn't hit the used market that often as well.

that's because f/1.2 lenses in general aren't all that copious...especially good ones.

After all of the feedback here, I decided to make a point of putting the 50 on my cam for a couple days...and I simply just cannot justify getting rid of it. After taking some pictures with it today, I'm actually a little upset with myself for not using it more often. It produces some incredible images.

Sorry 18-250...your days are numbered.
Start another thread. In ten days you'll have them both back in the bag

(I did own a K50/1.2 for a time, and I regret selling it. But at least I know I had one for a while).

I have the A f1.2; I bought it with my first LX, having decided that I'd have the absolute best of what Pentax had to offer at the time. I've never regretted the cost, which for me at that time was considerable. Someone mentioned a pub crawl, on my K5 I can truly shoot in "available darkness." Mounted on my ME Super with winder it is a killer street camera. And since you already own it you have the self-satisfaction of owning the fastest normal lens Pentax ever produced, and the awe and respect of knowledgeable fellow photographers. Its a good cudgel in the Canikon wars!

Now I also have in my possession a Pentax-A 50mm f1.2. This is an incredible lens, and a true collector’s item…
Does this sentence in your own words not answer your question?
