That's the decision I had to make when i've got mine... 10 vs 12 isn't that much of a difference... however the extra 4mm at the long end does count when you hate changing lenses as much as I do.
Hold on now, 10mm versus 12mm is actually a big difference, just about as much as 20-24mm on the other end. So it just comes down to which you need more.

Here are the FOV figures in degrees diagonal, for our cropped sensor.

10mm: 110
12mm: 99
20mm: 71
24mm: 61

I'm just writing this while sitting in the train from the airport, having just returned from Egypt. In one week we took (me & my wife) around1000 pics. She used 31ltd almost exlusively, while I was swapping between 10-20 and 50-135. Around 75 per cent of my shots were taken by 10-20 and 90 percent of those @10mm. I've never been happier to have this lens. Difference between 10 and 12 is acctualy big IMO and to make up for 24mm I got Sigma 24/2.8 which gives me extra stop over 12-24.
Anyway, distortions@ 10mm are actualy well controlled with the exception of the extreme corners. My copy isperfectly usable from f5.6 and I usually don't bother with AF. I just set MF 1m and shoot between f5.6 and f11.
I'll be posting examplesin some time (I'll have a lotof things to catch up with after 17 days off) but from first previews it seems some will be good.
These days, considering the price difference, the old version of 10-20 is very viable option. And if you'll get good copy you definitely won't be dissapointed.
