Meyer Optik 50 1.8 - the best 15 dollar lens ever?

You all know I can not pass up a 15 dollar lens.... So when chemxaj had this Meyer Optik 50 1.8 for 15 dollars shipped... I had to try it even if it meant breaking my 3-month no-buy period.

And boy was I surprised when I started to shoot it. It is pretty sharp wide open at 1.8... and the oof area is almost 1.4 ish and just what I like to see...

This one taken at a sunset ice cream run - ISO 800 wide open

some more examples wide open

Pretty freaking good for 1.8 and 15 dollars...
Thank you chemxaj... this one may give my Helios a run for its money ($20) haha

And you know when they say to "focus on the eyes"... here with tiny dof I hit the pupil spot on... check me out in the 100%crop

Looks like that's a great lens, used by a great 'tog. Really nice shots/examples.

I dig the OOF areas, quite attractive and smooth.

Oh cmon gus, I think you can make any lens look good. How about one day I send you my crap auto image M42 to prove this?

The results definitely look good I like the bokeh from the lens.

Oreston/pentacon is an excelent 1,8/50 lens.

All know that this lens came with the praktica and exakta cams.

In the praktica world, it was thw chapest 1,8/50 (the expensive was the CZJ pancolar, by far better lens).

But for the price, the pentacon is wanderfull lens. It's simple to dissamble and repare (so-so quality build). It has a great poland glass. And now you have it too!!

And you know how do it well !!

Very nice bokeh! Numbers 1 and 4 are really good portraits, and I'm sure the lens did not do all the work.

Those Meyer-Optiks lenses are interresting. Besides looking nice with the zebra style, they are mechanical gems. I have the 30mm Lydith with I think 10 apperture blades and the 200mm orestegor with some 15 blades, which help producing really interresting bokehs.

Here is one with the Lydith (they hardly cost anything on the market):

Perhaps I will need the 50mm now also...

Nice shots Gus!

I have been intermittently lowball bidding on 58mm Primoplans. I just want one to play with...

this looks like a very interesting lens. of course the photos speak for themselves. and as usual your daughter is a lovely model. very nice indeed. not sure id get one since it would be too similar to the hoard of 55 1.8's I have. it just wouldn't get used enough for justification of purchase. and I can say that about a number of normal primes that I already own....
