$250 to spend, what to get...

Here's what I've come up with as possible options:

Tamron 18-200mm (new with 6 year warranty, $250 after warranty)
Pentax 18-55 WR ($150) + Tamron 70-300mm ($100)
Sigma 18-125mm ($150) + 50-200mm ($100)
Pentax 18-55 WR ($150) + Pentax 50-200mm ($100)

Anyone have any other suggestions?

Did you get the K10D in the end? If yes I'd go with the 18-55 WR and either the Pentax/Tamron zoom.

If you do alot of travelling then the 18-200 would not be too bad. I think the 18-55 will be better than it IQ wise though.

I'm really starting to think that the 18-55 WR would be a good choice too! I might want to wait for the price to go down a little more (it already has gone down $50). Until then I'm considering just getting the Sigma 18-125mm. The superzooms would be good, but I doubt I'd be able to get good enough quality from them for what I'm used to...so the 50-200 might be the answer to that.

Depends. Did you pay back your "loan"?

Please do not post unless you intend to help answer my inquiry. Thanks.

I would prefer to have something in the range of 50-300mm (or 50-200mm) but the Tamron 28-75mm has always been of immense interest to me. I can easily get it for $200-$250, and it is definitely a stellar lens. Then again I might want to go the cheaper route and get a 19-35mm and a 70-300mm and maybe a prime to go with it.

Lighten up mate there was no harm in his reply. Anyway, do you need AF because for $250 you can get a pretty decent manual lens either prime or zoom.

No, unfortunately there was harm in his reply. He's been doing this to me for the last few months. I'm tired of it.

I don't need AF, but I'd prefer for at least one of the lenses to have it.

Fair enough.

If you're looking for a cheaper alternative and forgive the self plug but I have a Pentax FA 70-200 for sale in the marketplace. PM me if you're interested.

If you see the A35-105/3.5 anywhere I'd jump on it. I paid, if I remember correctly, $150 for mine in damn near mint condition and it's a great, constant aperture lens. A little bit heavy but it's a very nice Pentax zoom. I see them in the marketplace every now and then and always wonder why they don't sell in the first 1/2 hour.
And I'm a prime lens guy, but my A35-105/3.5 is always with me.
