Tamron 28-75 mm vs pentax 17-70mm

Anyone has two of this lens? Is this worth to replaced Tamron with Pentax? I mean onlycolor and sharpness-not quality or price... Thanks

I have the Tammy 28-75mm f/2.8 and I love it. Great all around lens. Brilliant for portraits all over its range. It's pretty fast in low light though the focus tends to hunt. I find it a little long for indoor stuff. Very sharp at f/4 and up. No complaints about the wide open results either. Can't say much about color, thats really a body and PP factor than anything.
f/8, 1/160, ISO 250

f/5, 1/60 ISO 320

f/2.8, 1/50, ISO 200

I had a 28-75. I now have the 17-70. If I had been one of the lucky few who got a copy of the Tamron that would focus I probably would have kept it and continued using the kit lens for wider shots.

I like my 28-75 a lot, but I'm trying to decide whether to keep it or the Sigma 17-70. The Sigma has better build quality and range, but the Tamron has a certain something IQ-wise that the Sigma lacks (plus it's f/2.8 constant!). It's a tough call.

I don't have the Pentax DA 17-70mm but I love it on the focal length and its constant aperture. But I found the price a bit too high especially when it does not have the weather sealing. I have both the Tamron and Sigma and I am keeping both for different reasons. In my view, you can't replace the Tamron with the Pentax DA as it can't cover the speed and the wonderful portraits that you can use your Tamron indoor with minimal use of flash. And you can't replace the Tamron with the Sigma equivalent for the same reason. Unless your focus is not on portraits and events and that the wide angle ranks top on your requirement, the Tamron is hard to beat when you get a good copy.

Until I get a wide angle zoom as in Pentax DA 12-24 or something similar, I find the overlap justifiable as I use the two zooms for different purpose. If I have to pick one over the other, it would be the Tamron as it has better IQ, speed, and color.

Thanks,
Hin
