A lens you won't find often: M42 80mm f/1.8 Komura

Let me start with the following statement: for a collector me it's VERY HARD to resist a lens that comes in such a pristine shape, it looks like it just left the factory... Quality like that is not common nowadays; I would not compare a Canon L lens with the fine workmanship of the Komura. I'd say it's on the same level as the FA Limiteds.

Excellent for dreamy shots focused very close. Very messy and hectic bokeh for focus farther away. Gorgeous condition! Gotta love pre-set lenses too.

Looking down the throat at all those aperture blades reminds me of the innards of my Jupiter-9

Any idea when it was made?

To the other responders: indeed, the lens works best for subjects up close (especially portraits; the optical design is quite old and based on the Ernostar) but not so much for focus farther away (unless the lens is stopped down in which case it gets much better).

I have seen the lens appear on a 1965 Komura Price List. It was rather shortlived; a few years later it was not available anymore. Komura also had a 85/1.4; that one can be found more often.

Funny that you mention the 85mm f1.4 lens. I was looking at this lens on Captain Jack's Exakta page the other day.

I think the only Komura I have is a 2x m42 tele-converter that I use on my 500mm f4.5.

Edit: And the point is that the lens is rare enough but there are almost no Komura in exakta mount.

Thanks guys, by the way, the Pancolar is the best lens of the bunch (IMHO). Yes, it's better than the SMC Tak...

I am seriously jealous...you have TWO CJZ Pancolar 80/1.8. I became interested in that lens just before the price went sky high and they all magically disappeared from the market. My Jupiter-9 was purchased when I finally figured out that I would not be able to find a good Pancolar that I could afford. I was lucky though. I bought my J-9 before the prices went up on those as well!
