FA 50 1.7 or FA 100 2.8 in a fashion show?

which lens would you prefer using in a fashion show? give scenarios and reasons on why you made such preference.

How far are you away from the action?
My take is to know at what position you will want to be taking your photos (when the model's at the start of the catwalk walking towards you, or approaching the end of the catwalk, or posing at the end), and then you'll know which fixed-focal to take.

Otherwise a zoom would be handier to try and get all of the positions...

the distance had been considered along the front row. though a zoom comes in handy, it's not the ideal lens to be used, unless if you got a 50-135.

the factors to be considered is sharpness, speed, IQ, colors, image/subject size, crop quality and overall field view. now, it's a matter of compensation which between the two would be more versatile or have the edge over the other.

Full body, the fast fifty.
Head, shoulders, upper body crop, the 100 macro.
Neither lens will disappoint, as you know, but taking just one lens will just mean you have one style of photo to work with.

Perhaps the FA 50 and crop if necessary?

I know, it's really a dilemma. the 100 macro has a much better bokeh though.

And the 50 will be easier to handhold, because it's faster...

Perhaps take both - mount the 100 and pocket the 50?

I had that on my mind, but you know how fashion shows are, models are so damn fast and the idea of changing lenses during the event is well...you know...might be too late. could had helped if I have a 2nd body.

Hmmm, so you absolutely have to get a shot of all the models? I'd use the 50 so I can crop later. At f2.8-3.5 the bokeh isn't bad at all imo. You have the K-7 too so plenty of space to crop.

Get the best of both worlds... DA 50-135 Rent it if you must, shouldn't cost you a bomb (although it might later when you decide to purchase it!)

Thanks Andi. kinda a bummer. however, I still have more than a week of preparation. I'll see what the 50 could do in test runs + crop quality testing (hope that the DOF would be as good as the 100). I felt bad for the 100 coz it's really a marvel to use. if I could only squeeze both in one, I'm sure that combo would give the 50-135 a running.
