Next lens.. help!

Hi all, I have recently purchased a KM with stock 18-55mm lense

I have a 50mm 1.7 SMC A
a 28mm m lens
and a 28-135A lens.

I'm looking to add an affordable used Auto focus lens to the kit, the debate is over a

28-105 tamron for all purpose use

or

50-200 DA for the next step in zoom from the 28-135 I already have...

I REALLY want the 10-17mm but I need to refill the coffers before I spring for that spendy lens

The 10-17 is not an ordinary wide angle lens - it's a fish eye, which gives completely different perspectives.
Your 28-105 suggestion may not cut it as 105 is not very much reach at all - you'd have to be quite close to your subject to get a fill-the-frame type shot with it.
Don't know what your budget is, butI'd suggest to go with the 50-200, or if funds permit even a DA 55-300, which is significantly sharper and more versatile.

I got a line on the 50-200 for 85 bucks, hard to pass up at that price!

Put a forum member has the 28-105, for a very resonable price as well...

I think I'll get the DA50-200 and fill in the gaps from there!

Get yourself a FA28-105 F3.2-4.5. It is an awesome lens optically (for the price), small and compact, well built and one of the fastest lenses in its class.

If you own and like that old monster of a lens - the legendary A28-135 - the FA28-105 F3.2-4.5 lens will blow you away! You won't believe the difference in size and weight - let alone the optical performance!

I think the smart choice (if you want longer reach) is the 50-200. Don't let the used ~$125 fool you. It is very capable. The 18-55, 50-200, and your 50 would make a great threesome.

Thanks for the input guys, I think a faster 28-105 is a good call as I live on the West coast, so get a lot of darker sky days, and I'd probably use that as my Skiing lens as it has more reach than a 18-55.

The 50-200 seems to get a lot of praise for a "value" lens, and for 85 bucks, and local! hard to pass up!

Of course the best thing to do would be buy both... but I've only owned my camera a week! got to spread the fun of new purchases out a bit longer, for the wallets sake!

A lot of what will work for you depends on what you like to shoot with your camera. If it's "street shooting" or walk-around I would suggest looking for the SMC FA 28-70 F4. My brother has one and I have used it. Very Light, very sharp. The show up on Ebay occasionally, but never when I have the money!!

Congratulations on the 50-200! Its a very nice lens, very light and compact and does take excellent images.

While I am writing this, I'll just go ahead and put in my 2 cents on the 10-17. I have one, along with the 12-24 (I have been carefully picking up certain lenses for the last 4 years). I acquired the 10-17 for a particular set of reasons, and it has worked out well. One of my favorite pictures was taken with the 10-17. There are times when a shot needs a full 180 degree and stitching is not an option and this is the lens to capture that type of shot. It is a fun lens, but it is specialized. Even if you defish it, you will still have certain distortions around the edges of the image.

Have fun - take pictures....
