Sigma 20-40mm f/2.8 EX DC

A discontinued lens from Sigma, I was recently checking one of these out for sale. I personally need a walkaround with some speed to it, and have been considering going prime, but like the flexibility of even a little zoom range. I currently own a Sigma 17-70mm f/2.8-4.5 and it has yet to blow my socks off...its slow on the long end, which renders it unusable (sometimes) in a pinch, it has lens creep, and I hate how the ring rotates during autofocus.

Does anybody have the 20-40mml? While it seems rather cumbersome and heavy, if it's a good pickup, I might make the plunge. I think it is a good "normal" range to have on the camera for typical composition work, and even some portrait work. Or Should I stop being cheap and spring for a DA* 16-50?

Thoughts?

I do not have that lens, but I use a Pentx FA 20-35mm as (one of) my walk around lens(es). It is a very handy range. I imagine f/2.8 would be even better than f/4.

Personally I think if you don't shoot film the Tamron 17-50 would be a way more versatile lens.

I'm currently looking at wide angle options for film, but the Sigma 10-20 is already around 370 used that paying for a 200$ wide angle to use only with film seems foolish.... just imho.

I'm hunting for the Sigma 12-24 now so I can get best of both worlds.

I have the 20-40 f/2.8, it's and awsome lens. Fom me it's crsip and really sharp, it's more for portrait and general stuff. IMO it's like having a prime 21, 35 and 40 in hit. I'm confident in saying it's that good.

My photography does not incorporate much walk around sort of stuff, but this lens is always in my bag for as I find it has good range and compliments my DA 12-24 which I mainly use for landscapes. It's quite a big lens, if your after a walk around one with more range might be better as pointed out above.
