Hi Alex,
I'm late to the discussion, but FWIW:
there were quite a few post in regards to testing 16-50 and the main focus was on de-centering. The test is fairly simple. attach a newspaper to a wall or floor, make sure it's as flat as possible; put your cam on a tripod and position it close to min focusing distance and make sure that sensor plane is parallel to the newspaper; insure constant lighting; make a few shots wide open and compare letters at the edges: right vs left, up vs down.
Good luck,

To be honest, I think there is a little too much hysteria raised by people seeking absolute perfection when they test the limits of their lenses with imperfect techniques. I'm sure there are a number of genuinely decentered or badly BF/FF copies out there, but I often wonder whether good copies are being sent back at times when the tests done by users fail to impress them for reasons that can be explained by flawed testing. That's the vain of my earlier post here.

One should be mindful to consider their lens as good until proven bad rather than the other way around.
