my new 77mm FA Limited

I got my new 77mm FA Limited and tested it over last couple of days.
It's quite amazing, even wide open. AF is fanky, very noisy and slower
than 70mm DA. But I'm very happy with the performace of this lens.
All taken with my K7.

The price you pay for the magic is a bit of AF noise. I'd say it's definitely worth it, wouldn't you?!?

well, if you can get close enough, a 35DA macro can be a birding lens

not only that, but if you care about one made in Japan before moving
the production to Vietnam, there is still a few left at B&H...

I was in Japan last week, and I saw a brand new one at Yodobashi Camera for about $1,200 u.s (converted from yen to dollars of course). So I actually took some time looking around for a second hand one and there were a few for around $800 us for a what they called a mint. The thing about second hand lens in Japan is that because of the humidity, it is certainly easier to contract fungus than say in California where I live. So I may take up on your advice, and buy one at B&H. Now is there really a noticeable difference between Vietnam version and Japan version in terms of optical quality?

some people claim there is. I think it's just a question of moving
the production line and rebooting everything a proper way.
All the DA Limited lenses have been produced in Vietnam since the begining
and they are all fine...

Again the bokeh is surely beautiful. A little harsh along some edges, but these images are very nice in deed

Fanky?

The 77 will always be slower than the 70 to focus, but the faster K-7 screwdrive has definitely closed the gap. It's at least twice as fast to focus on the K-7 than it was on the K20!
