DA 50-200m good choice?

I'm bubbling w/ excitement. I just sold my KM Maxxum 5D for quite a bit o' money and now I'm planning on lenses to save up for when I get the K10.

I do a lot of action photography/outdoor stuff.

Will the DA 50-200 be fast enough? Does anyone have any firsthand exp. with this lens?

Any 3rd party lenses I should look at?

Looking for something under $400-500 preferably...

Well, I have the DA50-200 and like it quite well. It is light and compact. Unfortunately, I haven't had it long enough, or taken enough photographs with it, to give you an objective assessment.

Mail Order and current rebate will get it for about $159 which, IMO, is a bargain.

Looks as if no one else has an opinion they can share with you so, I'd say, go for the DA 50-200.

You can get it online for about $209 to $219 Less the $50 rebate. That's a pretty good deal.

Hope I have been of help to you.

Thanks. I had a feeling it's pretty good. I had a 28-300 Tamron XR Di 3.5/6.3 for my Minolta and I found it to be a very good walk-around lens but the AF was pretty slow when i tried shooting racecars. Although I think that was more of the camera's fault than the lens' (if you saw the vid clip of the AF comparison of the Sony Alpha vs. the K10)

While I'm sure it's good, I'm waiting for the 60-250 f4 due in 2007. Slightly faster at the long end I think.

I have one, and tested befor I baught. It has the best optics of any in its class. Even popphoto said so! (lol, they tend not to be a pentax fan)
I find it as a great travle-kit lens and also got it s a backup for my sigma 70-200 F2.8
The price is right, I say get it
NOTE: this lens can not be used with a teliconverter! well not with the sigma one. The lens has a rear-patruding plastic and elment peice, so you have to find a converter that would fit.
