What lenses should I keep (21mm, 35mm & 70mm Ltd)?

I just bought a set on fleebay (21 + 35 + 70), and i'm also looking for the 77. I'll wait until I've tested the 70mm. But I also should get rid of one of the three lenses.. my bank account is also in a crisis in this moment

Wich one should I sell? 21 or 35 (I have also the Tamron 90mm macro, so I guess I'll keep this one for macro.) Or the 70 after testing??

This is a d*mn hard question because I like the limited lenses.. And I bought the 3 for the price of 1 1/2, even a bit less..

I looked at all the threads also to answer the eternal question: 70 or 77? (or just get both, I wouldn't mind )

I admit I am completely lost here! Unless the 77 is going to stay on the market for a while. Then all my problems are solved But I'm afraid the 77 will dissapear soon.

I'll be intrested in DA 70 if you gonna sell it.

So my advice is:

Sell DA 70!

The 21 is my least favorite of these, but they're all excellent.

I love the DA70. That should stay IMO. I'm indifferent on the DA21. Love the perspective and size, just don't care for the distortion. Never used the 35, but apparently that is a gem.

I sure need to test them before taking a decision, but meanwhile, any feedback is welcome!

@Jerrymouse:
I'm not sure if I will sell this one This is the one I like the most of the three!

If you want 77, you have to sell 70 ltd, otherwise it will be redundant. I have the same dilemma. I just can't pull a trigger on 77 ltd because it is hard for me to let go of 70. It is a bit weird in that I want to keep 70 for the completeness of the DA limited series, so to speak. It is nice to look at all DA limited lenses sitting right next to one another. I know it is pure stupidity....

The DA70 is a fantastic lens, though. Definitely has the pixie dust, if maybe not in the same quantity as the FA77 (dunno, never owned one).

from the list of what you have the 77 seems to be the keeper, the 70 is somewhat expendable.

It is not as fast, therefore limits some opportunities, both artistically with shallow DOF and in low light, and a 10% difference in focal length at this range is less important.

just my thinking

Keep all of them and think of Pentax DA* 50-135mm. The 77mm is insanely good but the 70mm has better AF, a true pancake, and quick shift focus is your friend that 77mm doesn't have. And between the 21mm and 35mm, I use the 35mm more, but you have got to have a trio of limited from landscape to portraits in focal range.

For speed, you can think of supplement with a good 50mm such as Pentax FA 50mm f/1.4 or Pentax A 50mm f/1.7

Thanks,
Hin

Sell me the 35 and I'll swap you for my 70....oh wait, you already have one of those!

Seriously, I'm happy with my 70 Ltd but it always sounds like (from others) that the 77 Ltd is just a notch better than the 70.

Here's what I REALLY want:

Sell the DA* 50-135, immediately get either the DA* 16-50....or the FA 31 Ltd + DA* 55....and somewhere down the road get the DA* 60-250 to replace the 50-135....but I suppose the smart thing would be to get the 16-50, keep the 50-135 and sell the 70 Ltd....but I've really never warmed up to the 50-135 like I have the cute little 70.

Sell the 21, unless you don't have wide coverage. If the 35 is DA, sell as well, unless you don't have normal coverage. If the 35 is FA, keep. Sell the 70 and buy the 77. I don't buy it that Pentax has no FF plans in the works. I'd want FF compatible glass going forward, just in case.

What camera body are you using them on and what other lenses do you have?

Might help us to help you make a more logical decision, though with these things it's not always about logic!

I'm using a K7. Mostly in manual focus.
Well, here's the list of the lenses:
- Tamron 90mm f2.8 macro
- Pentax DA WR 18-50 (didn't used it since I got the Pentax A 50mm except for wide angle)
- Pentax DA WR 50-200 ( still would need something more than 200 for birds and stuff, my 2XTC is not controlling aperture v_v)
- Pentax A 50mm f1.7
- Porst 55mm f1.2 (weird but funny lens, excellent bokeh and razorsharp if you manage to focus, lol)
- Asahi Kogaku 100mm f3.5 (still waiting for a M37 - M42 adapter for this one, maybe will sell it)
- Sigma SuperWide II 24mm f2.8 (will use for reverse macro, mounted in front of another lens)
- Asahi s-m-c takumar 50mm f1.4 (didn't test it yet)

Selling a Super Takumar 55mm f1.8 on *bay Super Takumar 55mm on *bay

What pictures do I take? Macro, skyscapes (love the clouds ^^), "things", not too many portraits (more animals than humans though), and will jump to street photography soon.

So the 21 is like the missing link for *scapes, but I got the sigma 24mm you would say.
The 35.. well, it has macro abilities and most of my pictures are macro..
The 70.. have to test it to know what I could use it for (street, portrait, I saw even macro shots with this one mounted on extension tubes, excellent quality!!)

And the Limited lenses do have some 'magical' attraction ^^ Hard to let them go, especially if you got 3 for the price of 1(just a bit more).

All three of the limiteds are absolutely steller lenses. If I were you I'd do my best keep the following lenses and sell everything else.

DA 18-55
DA 55-200
DA 21
DA 35
Pentax 50mm or Porst 55mm, whichever one you prefer.
DA 70
Tamron 90

The 21, 35, 50 and 70 combo would make a great street kit. In the end you should probably let go of the lenses you use the least.

As far as the 77 vs 70 debate goes... I've only used the 70 myself and it's very very good, there's definately some pixie dust on my copy. It might only be f/2.4 but it delivers where it counts wide-open.
