To get better low light performance at ~30mm, you have to buy the Pentax 31mm f/1.8 Limited or the Sigma 30mm f/1.4...
The "stop sequence" is f/1, f/1.4, f/2, f/2.8, f/4, f/5.6, f/8, f/11, f/16....so if you had the 30mm f/1.4, you could get the "same" shot at ISO800 and f/1.4.
I had the 35/2 when I shot Pentax and it was a really nice lens. I now have the Sigma 30mm f/1.4 for Canon, and it's a REALLY REALLY nice lens.
Once the light dips, every stop of light helps.
