50mm FA f/:1.4 and 35mm FA f/:2 discontinued ?

Hello everybody,

it seems that the 50mm FA f/:1.4 and 35mm FA f/:2 are very rared this time, do you think they are really discontinued or the new price is the answer ?

facts pro lens are discontinued

Mentionned on B&H for the 35mm
The lens disappeared on the K7 french brochure
The 35mmDA and the 55mmDA are meant to replace them
Pentax seems to plan all their lenses to be WR except the limited ones and the DAL.

facts con

they are still avaible on the yodobashi website and only few stock on the japan pentax shop
Samsung still sells the Samsung rebadged 35mm f/:2

Anybody has a clue ?

As far as I know, the FA35mm is discontinued at least in Europe, but there are some countries still selling old stock.

they might have been.
srs in London has (at least it seems to me) good conection with Pentax UK. They haven't advertised FA35 for ages but in September they canceled FA50 too. I'm heading to their store (to offload some stuff including DA*) on Friday, so I'll talke to them...

They can both still be ordered from most photo-retailers in Sweden. Either from stock or by order from Pentax.

If Pentax still make any FA lenses? I don't have the slightest idea. They may have been selling from stock for years. A pile of lenses somewhere in Japan. Does it matter? I ordered a FA35 only 2-3 months ago (from a company that had forgot to rise the price in their lists). No problem. I even got a A series 2x converter new from stock through a Swedish retailer that ordered it from Pentax Japan. Obiously they still have those in stock as well. But you must understand that it is only natural that they prefere to sell you a DA35ltd instead of a FA35 or a DA*55/1.4 instead of a DA50, becuase it increase their profit.

This sort of rumor threads "usch I can't find this lens on my favorit retailer is Pentax cancelling it" are useless. I believe that they are out of FA35 and FA50's the day I see a press-release from Pentax on it.

Can you clarify what "pro lenses" you mean and what a "DAL" lens is?

Douglas, DA L lenses are cheaper plastic mount ones that come with K-m and K-x.

I only meant taht the things which are a clue for discontinuation ( Argue Pro agains argue Con )

DAL = lens for KM/K2000 ( DA-L 18-55mm and DA-L 50-200mm) made to be the cheapest with entry bodies

When Pentax made the Samsung D-Xenon 35mm f/2 AL Weight 195g (without hood), the lens was rare in France and even on the French offical price list, the lens disappeared. It was a mistake but for now, It really seems that FA lenses ( except FA ltd ) are no longer produced or their prices are so high so noone will want to buy anymore

Actually, the whole deal was: Pentax MZ-60 film SLR + Pentax 28-105mm f4-5.6 + Pentax 50mm f1.4, everything for €70.
Considering its (near perfect) condition, the 50mm alone is worth a lot more than €70... along with everything else, it was quite the score. I wonder how much I can get for the MZ-60 on eBay...

The 28-105 is the one with powerzoom ???

I think that the MZ60 can be sold for 20/30USD easily, but it is not the best SLR Pentax made ( probably one of the worst from my opinion, the MZ50 was a much better one )

Can you point to some that will ship the FA 35mm f/2 to Denmark where the price isn't insane?

The swedish web sites I just checked sells them for about $1200 - which is pretty insane!
