I also had second thoughts on the 16-50 but went ahead and bought one from Pro Digital 2000 they gave me a good price 640 Canadian it's the best $650 spent on a lens. This lens mounted on my K. 20 amazes me every time I shoot with it, Tak Sharp, great color, and quiet. If it's a good one you will love it.

Dreamnet, I would love to hear about the new lens after it arrives. I fear that there may be high number of returned QC lenses being recyled by Ritz as it goes out of business.

$629 minus 8% bing cashback makes this a good deal too

Pentax SMC DA* Series 16-50mm f/2.8 ED AL IF SDM *DEMO* - eBay (item 270464133584 end time Oct-31-09 14:42:34 PDT)

I have another $100 rebate when I got the K-7, and I am still relucatnt to pull the trigger with all the QC and SDM issues, and I would love to hear once you get yours.

Mine is scheduled for delivery tomorrow by 3pm. Got it from Ritz. They have some bad phone numbers on their website and contact info. But the phne numbers they send in the emails do work.
I will let you know how it turns out. Hopefully a good copy.

Thanks. I would love to get one, but worry about returning items to a company that is going out of business. I also wonder what companies do with returned malfunctioning equipment-- return to manufacturer? try to sell again?

Didn't Ritz just get bought out and is restructuring? They are probably not going out of business yet.

They have restructured with a combination of the old owners and some new capital. I would buy the lens if I was shopping for it and the price was that good ( I haven't been looking at that lens so I don't know). The 55-300 price was pretty good but I have just bought my fuel oil for the winter and had to pass. I never had an issue with returning anything to the old Ritz but I'm not sure about what their policy is now as a restructured company operating under chap. 11. It still has the Pentax warranty. I would buy if I had the money for the lens.

ritzcamera.com and the B&M Ritz Camera stores are seperate companies. That's one way they can get around charging sales tax online.
