DA300MM f/4 vs F300mm f/4.5

if I take F*300mm price would be lower about 300 eur..

I would get the DA*

Factors to consider -

DA*, brand new, SDM motor and supposedly optimized for digital, new with warranty.

F* - older, wear and tear on aperture mechanism and AF mechanism. I do believe F* unlike FA* does not pass all information necessary for aperture/exposure control in the latest cameras. (This was from the last millennium and my memory in not the same. Pentaxians please correct me)

I wouldn't give up 2 years of warranty, weather sealing, build for digital design, state of the art coatings and silent focusing for 300 Euro (especially considering the quite large amount of money we're talking about - something like 900 vs. 1200 Euro or so probably).

Of course some have a SDM phobia and maybe the focusing speed is better with screw AF.

The decision is yours but I would chose the DA* 300 lens.

Yes it will. It has been confirmed to work on FF already. Take a look at Falk's tests.

To be honest, I would also get the DA* 300mm, although this is based entirely on the fact it is weather sealed. The F* however, is lighter and has a much nicer tripod ring (and it's cheaper). To me, the warranty doesn't really matter, since Pentax will fix the F* if anything is wrong with it (for a fee though). If, however, you don't find weather sealing important, I would justify saving yourself $300 and getting the F*. After all, it's a classic

F/F* lenses will work with full aperture automation on the latest DSLR's, in the same way that manual focus SMC-A lenses do.

I agree with your choice - the F*300/4.5 is a classic and a steal at 450 Euro!

I wouldn't buy the F* unless you can send it back if it is not sharp. I got a FA*300mm f2.8 that wasn't and pentax wouldn't adjust it and it wasn't even used.

No I traded it, it caused me too much negativity and had the DA anyway. It made me get a 40d as another option.
