Interesting observation on priceing...

Just browsing on London Drugs web site, they are a major camera dealer in Western Canada, and noticed what appears to be an anomaly on pricing. The Pentax 12-24 is priced at $1300 and the Tokina version in both Canon and Nikon mount is only $700. On the other hand, the 10-17 fish-eye is priced at $550 for the pentax version and $850 for the Tokina model.

Now why would that be so?

I have noticed the Tokina 10-17 to be higher than the DA 10-17 for whatever reason. A friend of mine is looking for one for his Canon. Another example for folks complaining about Pentax prices. Sure, they have gone up but switching to the other guys will end up costing even more.

Yep they do... and one of the better Pentax carriers too I think

Prices seems to be in line with ebay. No surprises for me... Although I do regret that 12-24 cannot be cheaper =/ 500 USD would hit the sweet spot, then pentax can charge 800 USD for the DA* 11-16

The prices of the Tokina versions and the Pentax versions used to be closer. Then last April all Pentax lenses jumped in price, and the Tokinas didn't.

Pentax charges alot for SMC and WR on their lenses.

No WR on a 12-24 though. The prices lately are funny. Last year I tried selling a 12-24 and an FA50 and got no responses, probably because I'm in Canada and stuff is more expensive here. Now, after deciding to keep them, I notice that prices are up beyond what I had asked. Makes me thankful for the lack of interest.
