Kiron Lenses

Hi! All,

I ve heard Kiron made great lenses especially the 105mm Macro. I have an offer from a friend to buy a Kiron 28mm for $55 and Kiron 28-85mm varifocal for $60. both the prices are incl shipping.

Do let me know if you have any advice/pics/experience with these lenses.

Thanks

Tasha

Kiron seem to be enjoying something of an upsurge in popularity recently as people discover how good these old lenses are. I have only the 90-180 flat field zoom to judge by, but based on that lens and other comments I have read I doubt that Kiron made any clunkers. The only caution I have read is that the grease Kiron used has a tendency to dry out over time so that the focus action becomes stiff.

LoL If only Nikon took their third party manual options as seriously. Theres PLENTLY of awesome old cult lenses, vivtars, kirons, tokinas, etc etc ...but nikon mount. Even the Russian MIR-24 on ebay..(35mm f2)...Nikon mount...

The Kirons should be a keeper. Good luck. Get the Kiron 28-85..its the 2.8-3.8 right? You will not be disappointed. Kiron's classic "StovePipe".

(Oh and make sure theres no oil on the aperture blades. Some Kirons and Komine made lenses are rather susceptible to oil problems.)

I still have two Kiron lenses I bought in 1981 used on my Pentax and Ricoh 35mm film camers a 70-210>f4 and the 28-105>3.2 that I have shot over 30,000 pictures on them and now they will be used on my new Pentax K5. They are still like new, beautiful glass.

One thing to note with kiron lenses from the early 1980's is they have a tendency to have sticky aperture blades. I have a 24 and 28 mmF2 and have had to clean the oil off the blades of both
