Steve have you ever used a screw in lens hood with a 44-3? Is the filter size 52mm?
No, I haven't. 52mm is a reasonable assumption, however.

Pleace, do not mix different models of Helios.
Models "Helios-44-3" and "MC Helios-44-3" and "MC Helios-44-3M" was manufactured for many years in three manufactories - KMZ, Jupiter and Belomo, for many cameras, with different apertures and even flansh lenght.

Some info in lithuanian language.

Thank you for reminding us again of your page. The purpose of this thread is to alert users to a possible compatibility problem with non-Zenit bodies that exists with both Helios 44-3 and MC Helios 44-3 lenses made by Belomo. As noted in the original post, not all Helios 44-3 or MC Helios 44-3 lenses have this problem.

The Helios 44-3M has not been discussed on this thread before your comment. Given its unique barrel design, I am would be surprised if there were an issue using this lens on non-Zenit cameras. Thanks for bringing this interesting and unusual lens to our attention.

Thanks to the OP for this very informative thread. With this knowledge on board I purchased a brand spanking new 44-3 from a Russian Ebay seller. While waiting for the lens to get to Australia I made sure I had a suitable screw-driver and metal sandpaper at hand to fix the problem. Got the lense (circa 1986) today, confirmed that I would need to do some dirty work after fitting to my Fotga M42 - M4/3 adapter.......and got down to business.
Spent half an hour sanding the focus ring and tried it out. I took three shots, wide open, f4 and f5.6. Didn't have a human model at hand. Olympus OMD EM1 camera.
I could possibly sand another 1/3 of a mm to get a perfect flush fit to adapter, but am happy with how it stands.

I look forward to getting out and about with it.
