Should we do this for Sigma HSM lenses as well, or just Pentax SDM?

I never had a problem with the 300mm most of the problems are with hte 16-50mm and 50-135mm from the complaints I've read. Is it coincidence that these two are also made by tokina also? I wonder if the tokina lenses have focus issues also?

No warranty (looking over possible solutions - taping pins, firmware, repair etc)

If one failed on you, how would that change your view on Pentax if it does all?
Will not buy any SDM-lens, have hard to even motivate myself to buy anything more from Pentax. Such a expensive lens that fails and they give no support at all, even if this seems to be a common/known problem.

It would change my views completely. I would post negative messages and slander about the system. I would purchase a high-end C*N*N system AND a high-end N*K*N system and use them to take photos of the broke-@$$ Pentax lens for all the world to laugh at and ridicule.

In all seriousness, my opinion would change as much as when a headlight on my car burns out - my opinion wouldn't change at all.

no...for $800+ and failing within the first 30-days, I can't trust this lens again. I was really not aware of the reports of SDM issue and I could even live with the painfully slow AF, but for a lens bought new to fail so soon just gave me pause on future purchases. And now that I am more aware of SDM's less than stellar reputation, deserved or not but a reputation none the less, for failures, even a year is too soon. I returned mine while I could for a full refund rather than exchange or even have it repaired and will now wait to see what happens.

If one failed on you, how would that change your view on Pentax if it does all?
I have to say the failure has dampened my enthuiasm for Pentax in general, though a lot of that are the insane price increases over the few months I have been using Pentax gear again. I am not giving up yet, but just am not as excited about the brand as I was previously when the K-7 caught my eye. However, other than the 16-50 which has a history of more than just SDM failures/issues, the 60-250, 300mm, 200mm and even the 17-70mm all seem have pretty solid reps but were not the lenses I wanted out of the box.

One significant thing stopping me from buying another or even a different SDM is the very poor warranty of just a single one year. Yeah, even Canon "L" lenses only have a one-year US warranty but I also have been pleased with every Sigma EX I have owned and they have their 4yr warranty here in the US. If Pentax can offer longer warranties in places such as Canada then there is little reason the same should not be possible in the US. I would be leased with a 3-yr warranty on all SDM lenses, or at least the DA* line which is supposed to be their premier lens line and carries a hefty price premium now as well. Pentax is not #1, or even #3 so they really need to do something to get further into my wallet.

I can saw were it not for the 43ltd and the 35ltd macro, I probably would have bailed on the brand. I am not enthralled with the 77ltd enough yet, but things take time so I can wait. But the lack of a faster DA* mid-range zoom that I won't cringe over every time I mount it on the camera is not a great feeling. I could go on but that's enough I suppose.

BTW, take all of this with a grain of salt. The past few months have not been great for me personally and I am not exactly as easy going as is my nature. My tolerance for these things is pretty much less than zero right now...and that is probably the real reason I am not back with the "other guys"...it's a bad time for me to make judgements about things.
