f2.8 is "best" for me... (our definition of "best" will vary really).

I never knew there was an 18-55 f/2.8.

The "18-55 f3.5/5.6" is that way because it is cheaper to manufacture.

Well I get it that 2.8 is better than 3.5/5.6...but why or rather because of what?

I beleive that the 18-55 f/2.8 is Sigma ex(?) series

Would have to agree with Alfisti.

There is no 18-55/2.8. You mean the Sigma 18-50/2.8 I presume.
If you don't have an 18-55, what do you have at the moment?

Larger aperture lenses in general give you greater creative flexibility.
I'd suggest reading the fundamentals (exposure triad) and then decide what you need from what you'd like to shoot most.

I honestly don't know about that Ash
Before I gave away my Pentax I spent some time playing around with the kit lens, and it held it's own against some of my fast Super Tak's

I'm thinking of borrowing it back sometime, and seeing what it'll do on a film camera. I know that I'll have some serious vignetting, however that's occasionally what I want.
