LBA for the A 100mm F2.8 macro

Can't find very much info on this lens so I hope I didn't make a mistake. But I have been wanting one of these for some time now and finally found one for under $700. The current listing on ebays lowest is $938 and the top $ listing is $1398
So I let my Sigma 70 and Lester Dine 105 go. I am not really expecting it to be that much better than either of those lenses if at all. I was starting to get attached to the Sigma. Wonderful lens. So is the Lester though.
But as macro lenses go I know it will be great. I have went through quite a few macro lenses and have enjoyed the experience. Each one had its own appeal. Now I just need to settle down and learn how to use one of these.

Can I get the owners of this lens to post some photos? It would be great to hear your comments and thoughts. I have looked in the review section but only one photo posted.

BTW, I should be getting it the 27th from KEH. They had it listed as EXC+ so I know I will be receiving a beautiful lens.
So with the addition of the A 50 f1.2 ( in USPS limbo ) I think I have a pretty good Pentax prime lens line up. Oh ya, add a K7 to the list of new equipment.

My girlfriend is getting tired of hearing me say " I am done now".

$700 , $900 and $1300 for the A 100/2.8 macro ? Why so expensive ? It never used to be that expensive... I remember this lens to sell for 350pounds max on ebay before 2 years , in fact most of the time around 250pounds.

This is a rare lens that seems to be similar in formula to the FA 100/2.8 macro. On the forum's review database, it's ranged from $500 some time ago to $700 more recently. I think it's an OK price - for a very good lens.

Hope you come to enjoy the fine piece of glassware.

Prices of lenses are crazy I know so I can't explain exactly why so high. One thing though is that it doesn't come up for sale very often. The ones they have listed on ebay right now are the first I have seen in a long time. I do think the price I payed is still too high but it is in the range of a good new macro lens anyway. I probably shouldn't compare but the price I see folks pay for the Voigtlander 125 is quite crazy also.
Do you see the Pentax come up for sale in the UK nowdays? Maybe my search hasn't been that thorough. The matsuiyastore ( a very good retailer ) on ebay usually follows pretty close the current market. Maybe a tad higher than typical US prices. Prices of lenses in some cases have almost doubled in the last year. Really sucks!!

Ash, the A 100mm f/2.8 Macro differs in optical construction from the F/FA 100mm f/2.8 Macro lenses. 7 elements in the former versus 9 elements in the latter two.
It is a very good lens with great build quality. My friend Frank has one and his shots with the lens is just great.

Prices are probably high because of scarcity; a 100mm macro is good to have and even though something not necessarily used daily, if you've got it, you probably tend to keep it.

As good as the A 100mm f/2.8 Macro is, if I had a choice, I would still choose the Voigtlander 125mm f/2.5.

I probably would to if it was $500 cheaper.
I was thinking today about the money spent and considering it will be a lens I use quite often it is a bargin. I spent that much on my 77 limited and don't use if that often.

I've had the A 100/2.8 macro for many years Oren. I think you will enjoy it. It takes a while to get used to focusing with it but it is worth the effort. Great build quality and wonderfully sharp. The rear element protrudes a bit from the back of the lens so take care when mountiing it to your camera.

I've been amazed at the price this lens seems to command of late. Upwards of $1,400 is being asked. It is rather rare and folks tend to hang on to them. It has always been an expensive lens. I paid $700 Cdn for mine in the early 1990s.

In a related thread Wheatfield notes some sensor reflections in his copy of the lens.

thank you 8540tomg, I have thought about PMing you a couple times to ask you some question in regards to the lens since I noticed it in your signature. Thank you also for writting the review also. I will do likewise after I have had a chance to use it a bit.
