Stolen 600/5.6 A*

A couple of weeks ago my 600/5.6 A* Pentax lens (w/case and 1.4x L converter)was stolen from my house in Washington State (US). Considering the uncommoness of this lens, I guess it'll show up on Ebay. If anyone sees it about, I'd appreciate hearing of it. It's insured (I have serial number), but it would be nice to catch the b*st*ds that cleaned me out.

Thanks.

Also watch for similar listings such as A* 400mm f2.8, because if I had stolen that lens, I know eBay is the first place people would scour for it, and because of that I would list it as something with a description very close to it. People list lenses incorrectly all the time - maybe some intentionally so that an automatic search won't pick up on it.

Will keep our eyes peeled.

Very sorry to hear.
Hopefully it will turn up locally as those in WA state look out for the lens in local marketplaces.
Hope it works out in the end.

Sorry to hear this and hope you can recover it.

Good point on Ebay and I'd set up a bunch of auto searches in every possible way that might catch this. If we can help, please contact the Mods here as well. If anyone see something fishy in the marketplace, please report it to us.

Besides ebay and Craig's list, check your local pawn shops (if they are legal in your state) and flea markets. If it turns up at either, say nothing but contact the police immediately to prevent it from 'disappearing' again.

If it showed up anywhere, I'd buy it and then go to the police and have the vendor arrested for purveying stolen merchandise.
If it's a store, you would probably be able to recover your money fairly easily, if it's a private sale, you might end up in small claims court.
Either way, with a lens that rare, getting it back is more important than the money spent to recover it.
After that I'd be talking to my insurance company.

Most jurisdictions in WA require pawnshops to participate in a federal system where people pawning off items of certain value, and this lens would far exceed that limit, to disclose verifiable identification information. I'd be surprised if the lens showed up at any legitimate pawnshop.

Besides what others have suggested, I wouldn't rule out local newspapers, mom-and-pop camera/photo shops or even north of the border as possible options where it might be offered for sale.

Good luck in recovering your lens, and in nabbing those responsible.

Good luck with this, I'm in the next state and I'll keep an eye out for you. I check Craigslist often for photo stuff.
