Good for you mate.
Now when you get it, give it a good workout and share your results!

I have owned sigma 70-200 f2.8 mk I and Fa* 80-200mm f2.8

The conclusion is summarised as the following.

1. Ditch Fa* 80-200mm if you could. It is over-rated and it is heavy as hell. The lens performs better at 200mm f2.8 better than 80mm f2.8 in terms of contrast and colour as well as resolution.

2. Power zoom is an overated feature where it can scare the flies away if you are shooting in summer

3. Sigma 70-200 f2.8 mk I beats pentax easily with a lower price tag. However, mk II is reported not as good as mk I version. That needs to be further collaborated with other users who have mk II version

4. Pentax Fa* 80-200 resale value is a lot lower than previously now and it is probably a better collector item than a good lens to own. Remember to carry this 2 kg lens on your neck for image quality not much different from sigma 70-200mm is really detering a photographer to carry it, unless for vanity reason like a phallic symbol

James, you make good points here.
I wouldn't be discounting the FA* as a less than excellent lens for what it does - compared to the imperfections of either 70-200 available today, it would probably trump them both.

Seeing results of the old Sigma 70-200, it's clear that one is a fine lens and competes quite well with the FA* - I'd held out for a while on getting the newer 70-200s just to see if someone was going to sell their Mk I here, and typical, after a few months of waiting and just biting the bullet to go for a new lens, I see a Mk I on the forum marketplace a week later...

You know that is a "rule" in the marketplace, right? It's part of the "critical need" circuitry built into all electronic devices as well as a special rountine in all software ever written...when you need it NOW, that is the trigger for the effect!

Hi

all images in this link taken with K10D and Sigma 70-200 f2.8 II HSM

images in this link with K7 and the Sigma. Better AF of the K7 makes a difference

now if you want excellent IQ can recommend the Sigma 100-300/4. Images in this link taken with K7 and the 100-300/4
