I don't use them, but I plan to start so I don't have to touch the front element at all, even with microfibre.

I always use a hood, to reduce flare and coma, which is always present even if it cannot always be readily seen, and for protection.

UV filters are useful in the mountains where intense UV can cause oversaturation of the blue channel on dslr, and underexposure of other colors on film.

Skylight filters reduce blues by passing more red and green; useful when skylight is prominent.

The lens-side of filters can increase internal reflections from light bouncing off the coatings on lens surface, increasing flare and coma and thus diminishing IQ.
