Does buying paper, diopters, and TC counts as LBA?

Great post - who needs that Pentax 1000mm lens? especially one that works in such low-light

Well done, sir!

Nick, I suggest you to file a patent for LBA on the cheap for your innovative idea on the 1000mm. Maybe an old idea as other mention using telescope parts to build long lens

Let's start a contest that some of us in PF come up with weirdest stuff like toilet paper rolls, coffee cup, toilet plunger, your pre-contact eyeglass and the like and make the next 1000mm as genuine as the one from Nick. No add-on over $100 is allowed, coffee in late night deadlines are excluded.

And it has to work to some degree with the moon shot. Man, I don't know how to make a picture like that from Nick. I can lie but I am damn sure I can't get a decent picture like that.

The next milestone is go out and find that crazy squirrel, big horn and the hawk in a distance and have fun with the LBA on the cheap. Try to say NO to the next lens purchase until we can build one in our garage. That should hold the LBA thoughts for a while until we figure out how to clone Nick's innovation out.

It is a happy Pentaxian drive with "LBA on the cheap." And our sweeties and children would find many long tube objects instead of UPS and USPS priority boxes lying around. "Honey, why are you saving up all the toilet rolls? And what happen to your dozen USPS boxes?" And my reply: I have found a new way to fight my LBA thoughts and I recycle all of my USPS priority boxes. And I get that nasty look again from my family -- the disbelief with eyes rolling.

Hin, I'll take your challenge . . . right after I bag a DA 70mm.

Edit: With the lens prices going they way they are, I may be working wit paper towel tubes in the future. They should look pretty good painted black with Pentax in red block lettering.

Here is what's left of the lens.
I was really surprised at how good homemade lenses can be.
.
Now you got the hang of it, you can take a leaf out of the Lensbaby crowd and undersell the competition but still make a buck selling kits.

I made a super-macro out of a "Pick-Up Stick" tube (it's a game). It just happened to be the right diameter to jam my 50mm lens in without it falling out when pointing down at my subject!
