From your last description I suspect you would prefer 35mm over the 50mm. What FL are you using most now with the 18-55?

Another possibility that would fit your budget would be an FA 50mm and an A 28mm f2.8 manual focus. MF 28's are decent quality, cheap and plentiful. Have you seen this thread?

On a dSLR, both the 21 and 35mm focal lengths would suit you most, but the 50 wouldn't be unreasonable to go for also. Those 3 primes are all well acclaimed and are are relatively compact too.

I suggest getting a M50mm F/1.7 anyways, since they are so cheap and yet great lenses. You should be able to find a nice copy for under $50 easy.

Just perusing over at eekBay, it looks like you might be able to get an M 50mm f/1.7 and a Super Tak 35mm f/2 for +/- $100. The super Tak will need a screw mount adapter though.
