overexposure with Metz flash, K20D, and 50mm 1.4 Super Tak

Hi! I've been experimenting with a 50mm 1.4 Super Tak lens on my K20D. It's in AV mode and works fine without flash. I do have to bump up the exposure 1/2 a stop to get a balanced exposure. But when I am using the flash, a Metz 58 AF-1, it overexposes by about 3 1/2 stops. I can get a decent picture by dialing in -3 EV to the flash. The flash is being bounced by the way. I haven't tried direct flash yet.

Any tips on what I'm doing wrong? This is the first time working with a manual lens like the Super Tak. I love the images I get without the flash though!!!

does your foash have an auto setting? If not, you can't use auto exposure modes with a flash and either K (not KA) or M42 mount lenses. P-TTL flash cannot work because it does not know the aperture of the lens to make the calculations it needs.

Flash photography with M42 lenses I find works best on *istD because that body supports TTL and P-TTL.

True TTL has a sensor reading light directly off the flim/sensor plane and therefore does not need to know th e lens aperture.

Only the *istD and DS support TTL.

If your flash does not support auto mode with it's own sensor, the only other option is full manual flash.

P-TTL wont work, the flash will fire at full power

in auto, you will need to make sure the flash is set to the same ISO and aperture as the lens (aperture) and camera (ISO)

then in auto the flash's own sensor should regulate power
