A 200 F4 Macro

Does anybody have this lens and if so, how is it? How well would it work on a K20? Would it be better to go with the DA 300 and the DAF 100 macro?

It's got a cult following, extremely rare, extremely expensive, if you've found one for a good price, you've hit the a photogs jackpot....congratulations!

A slight correction -- If you've found one at almost any price, you've hit the photogs jackpot! Dave

I'm one of the lucky few who have one - and it is a truly wonderful lens, well deserving of its reputation. Works great at a distance as well as for macro; great sharpness, color, and rendering; smaller than its later FA sibling. The only issue (other than MF) in using it on a K-10/20 is that the OEM tripod ring screw knob which fixes rotation can interfere with the overhanging prism housing at some angles. Solution: buy an aftermarket screw and file it down a bit... or file down the original knob if you are willing to deface a classic.

I've got one. It is understandably much better than any of the other 3 macro lenses I've got. Not only is it super sharp, but I think it's the best lens I've used(out of probably about 20 or so) as far as suppressing chromatic abberations goes. The 200mm length is very nice for bug photography, and also works well for flowers and such.

The one problem with the focal length is the increased difficulty of getting good handheld images with it. Of course, in most cases a tripod is advisable for macro work, but for those times when you need to handhold, it's a little bit tougher than with shorter FLs.

If you have the ability to buy one, I say go for it if you can afford it. If nothing else you could sell it for probably about what you got it for. It's legendary for a reason, and you may not get another chance.
