Tamron 90mm Macro

Is the above lens suitable as a mid-tele lens? I'm trying to decide between the DA 70 ltd. and the Tammy. I don't currently shoot a lot of portrait or macro, but I wouldn't mind having the capability.

OTOH, I have the DA 40 and love it.

I would have to get a used DA70, and it would still be more expensive than a new Tammy ($379 w/Bing and rebate from Abe's of Maine).

Sure, it roughly corresponds to the common 135mm length for the 35mm format.

It is on the long side for portraits, though.

I'll get a Sigma 70/2.8 EX which, IMO, better doubles as a (extremely sharp) macro and portrait lens.

Yes, it is suitable for non-macro use and many members on this forum use it as a longish portrait lens. Be aware that the Tammy is substantially larger and heavier than the DA 70.

It's still pretty light, though. It's just that the DA70 is ridiculously tiny.

I love the Tamron for portraits.

Although I have no experience with the other 2 lenses, I will say the Tamron is sharp from wide open through all apertures. I don't think you will get the "snap" in focus with the others, though
