FA43/1.9 limited.

Twelve months ago I said the FA77 ltd

Now I must say I agree that the FA43 limited is the best... it makes you work harder than the forgiving FA31, but it has something about it that no other lens has

But at the moment i would have to say the FA77 LTD by a long mile, i have a very strong love for that lens. I dont control that lens, it controls me!

How about the rare and largely overlooked and underrated A28mm F2.0?

On a digital SLR this is the equivalent of 42mm on 35mm film and is an excellent general purpose lens. Fairly sharp even wide open and razor sharp when stopped down even a little.

If I had to have only one of the 4 I own it would be the DA21. The DA21 is not my best prime, but it's my most useful.

I have a question, especially for all who chose the FA77 Ltd. If in this single lens question third party lenses were allowed, would any of you consider either the 58mm or 90mm Voightlanders? And why or why not?

My choices follow and are based on what I have. Might be different if I had the other choices mentioned here and some that I somewhat lust after (FA Limiteds, and DA Limiteds)

AF: DA40 f2.8
compact, relatively inexpensive, sharp, quick AF, great build.
I do believe it is the epitome of Pentax's concept of high ISO body, small camera and lens.

MF: A50 f1.2
the exact opposite of the DA40 - large and heavy. goes against the high ISO, small camera and lens concept It's large aperture allows for unlimited creativity, and at wide open it has that glow about it. Equivalent to a short portrait on a DSLR - like an FA77?

If I had to choose between the 2 for only 1 it would be the DA40 - but you see, because the DA40 is so compact and light, why not go ahead and bring another lens?

Super Takumar 24 3.5, together we are one, pleased to roam where noone disturbs us;
Preset Takumar 105 (black) 2.8, plenty sharp though not easy, unworldly cold dark colours and all the same capable of very deep warm browns, it is my companion under dark foliage of oaks and the likes, old wood lanes.

Wouldn't know, have da limiteds, af is never the same like takumars, but still, da15 steals my heart luring me into uncommon scenes, and dfa 100mm, it makes me smile with its Jacob Ruysdael like rendering ...

M 20 f/4

M 20: Got kicked around on film for having soft corners, on aps-c, it's colors and sharpness and fun FL and small size make me smile ear-->ear.

Strange - it was one of my favourite lenses as a UWA on film, but can't seem get on with it on digital.

30mm equiv @ just f/4 isn't that useful, and I don't even find the IQ that great?

Add me to the list of FA 77mm supporters. Beyond the one-ring pixie dust (which I whole-heartedly concur exists), it's the focal length I see with the best. When I'm looking at a scene and contemplating possible photos, more often than not the resulting shot is taken with the 77mm. If I only get one lens at Armageddon, it's going to have to be the one that I'm most likely to use when the 4 horsemen come riding by. ;-D
