Zeiss lenses with CPUs for Nikon other mounts to follow late 2010

...if Pentax keeps charging what they are for their Limited lenses a Zeiss looks
more promising for the money.

CPU - is just an excuse to rise their pricing more skyhigh...

The current series of K-mount Zeiss lenses have always been a good option, particularly after Pentax's recent price increases. Too bad they are not AF It is also too bad that the current Voigtländer offerings are so limited. The optical and build quality of the V's are to the same standards as the Zeiss at a much more reasonable price.

Steve

P.S. The press announcement in the link is specific to the ZF models. The ZK (K-mount) versions have always had full "A" type mount support.

They tell the camera the aperture setting and focus distance for the lens. The compatible cameras use the focus distance reading for metering and flash settings. Among other things. With the Nikon lenses, it's the "D" in the lens designations.

@Eruditass: Some camera makes require a chip in the lens to let the body meter or confirm focus properly. For the KA (Pentax) type Zeiss lenses neither of those factors is a problem. Having a chip like the FA lenses that includes focal length for shake reduction and other data for your EXIF might be nice but the lack of those features wouldn't stop me from buying one of the current Zeiss lenses (and the article doesn't specifically mention whether Pentax lenses as being considered for an upgrade).

I was just confused because on exif data on my pictures it says the subject distance (probably focus distance) and my lenses don't have CPUs, just chips.
